Sue Blackwell to talk to Yvonne regarding training.
3. Treasurers Report
Linda reported that we have £8755 in the bank with the rent paid up to May. The rental has increased from £15 to £16 per hour, which is partly due to the VAT rise. There was some discussion about how we can afford the increase and it was decided that there is currently no problem but we will monitor the situation.
4. Instructors Reports
Beginners. Sheila has been helping out with the class. Mogs has been ill and missed some of the recent classes. Since the last test when there was a high pass rate the classes have been small but hopefully there will be more trainees from the latest list from Carole.
Intermediate – Rob reported that class numbers low up to the year end but should be around 8-9 following a successful test and new members joining from the beginner’s class. Katherine has joined as an assistant and is doing very well. Carl has been working away for the last 6 weeks but will be back in the New Year
Advanced- Sue reported that the class numbers were high with a few troublesome dogs. Generally the standard is very good and an enjoyable group.
Competition- There was no report from the class instructors but Yvonne said that classes were very small which may in part be due to Chris’s recovery from his fall.
The Panto has been booked for 39 (Aladdin with Neil Morrissey)
The Xmas Dog Walk took part on Tuesday 28th December and was well attended with 17 Dogs.
If the RSPCA Burton Branch gives their permission to run a Dog Show in September the DVDC will organise an event.
Seconded Linda.
In Favour 8, Against 1 Abstentions 3
The proposal was carried. Concern was raised that DVDC should minimise the expenses occurred before the event and keep a close dialogue with Stretton Branch to avoid too much cost if the event is cancelled.
It was decided to look for alternative venue and organise a Dog Show in 2012 if the Stretton event falls through. This would involve finding new event organisers.
7. Membership Renewals
Rob suggested that as membership information is often out of date that renewal notices could be pre-printed with current information for members to confirm or amend. This could be done through a mail merge process and any members not attending classes could be invited to renew by post. This was agreed and Rob will discuss with Daryl to process this before renewals are due in March.
Mogs asked that if any enquiries were received about Gundog training we recommend Dove Valley Gundog Club in a reciprocal arrangement as they recommend DVDC for obedience and socialisation training.
The Dogs Trust have asked for a £12 donation towards their new re-homing centre in Loughborough and we agreed to donate to this.
5 Instructors are due to attend a training course at Odin Canine Training at a cost of £450.
There was some discussion about a residential course available through the Dog Training Association and Mogs was to get more information from them at Crufts regarding the relevancy to our Instructors.
There being no other business the meeting closed at 21.50.
