Instructors Profile  - Rob Grant

Having been a dog owner all my life since the age of seven until marrying and leaving home, it has only been since Linda my wife has not been working that we felt able to become dog owners again for the last twelve years.

When we rescued Roli our German Shepherd Cross from Just For Dogs rescue center in Brailsford I joined Derwent Valley Dog Club. Having progressed through the classes to the Advanced class I volunteered to become an assistant instructor. I spent a number of months helping out in the Puppy and Beginners Class with Martin & Claire and later worked with Sue & Mick Barlow in the Intermediate Class.

After instructing the Intermediate Class with Carl, I currently instruct the Advanced Class with Mogs. Whilst there is a lot to learn all the other instructors have been very helpful and patient and I get great pleasure in watching members achieve their awards and progress through the classes with their dogs.

Roli achieved his Gold award and we look forward to joining other members of the club in the display team this year when we hope to put on displays during the summer at various fetes and open days.

I am fully qualified as a Kennel Club Examiner up to Gold Level for the Good Citizens Award.

Profile: Morgon Griffiths

Morgon, known as MOGS is an assistant working in the Advanced class where his straight forward, no nonsense and commonsense approach has helped many handlers and their dogs attain the Gold Good Citizen Award. MOGS has been a member of Derwent Valley for 6 years, bringing his own two English Springer Spaniels (ESS) on through the classes both attaining their Gold Good Citizen Award. He is a serving member of the club committee. He has experience with Rosie and Jilly in the beating line on shoots and in working test competitions.

MOGS has recently attended an instructor’s workshop with Odin Canine Services which has given him an insight into other methods of training. Mogs is a Kennel Club Examiner at Bronze Standard.
